Prayer of Invocation

L: God meets us in the night—

C: before the sun rises, before the wound heals, before there are answers, before there is closure.

L: God meets us in the light—

C: where joy is effervescent, where laughter is contagious, where people gather around tables.

L: God meets us in between—

C: at the edge of the water, at the beginning of the wilderness, at the start of something new, on the edge of faith.

L: And if God meets us in all those places,

C: then surely God meets us everywhere—at the water’s edge, at the start of something new, after the baptism, and before the call.

L: We are not alone. God is all around. Let us worship the God of everything.

Confession

Have mercy, O God, Against you, you alone, we have sinned. In your compassion, cleanse us from our sin and take away our guilt. Create in us a new heart and give us a steadfast spirit. Do not cast us away, but will us with your Holy Spirit and restore your joy within us. Amen.

Kyrie by John Hermanson

L: Let us pray to the Lord.

C: Lord, have mercy.

Ask and it will be given.

Seek and you will find.

These are the gifts of God.

Song of the Day Softly and Tenderly by Will L. Thompson

Softly and tenderly

Jesus is calling,

calling for you and for me.

See, on the portals

he's waiting and watching,

watching for you and for me.

Refrain

Come home, come home!

You who are weary, come home."

Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling,

calling, "O sinner, come home!"

Why should we tarry

when Jesus is pleading,

pleading for you and for me?

Why should we linger

and heed not his mercies,

mercies for you and for me?

Oh, for the wonderful

love he has promised,

promised for you and for me!

Though we have sinned,

he has mercy and pardon,

pardon for you and for me.

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer Song Christ, Our Peace by Marty Haugen

Christ, our peace, you break

down the walls that divide us;

Christ, our peace, come,

make us one body in you.

Eucharistic Prayer

L: Do this for the remembrance of me. As we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the mystery of faith:

C: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Communion

Lamb of God by John Hermanson

Who emptied himself

to be a servant

Who turns over tables

In the holy temple

Who welcomes the stranger

Who visits the prisoner

Who lifts up the poor

From the dirt and the dust

Who asks the same thing of us,

Who asks the same thing of us,

Who asks the same thing of us,

Lamb of God.

Is this the feast of victory,

Is this the feast of victory,

Is this the feast of victory,

Is this the feast of victory?

Benediction

L: As we leave this place, may we find God in every messy middle.

C: May we know the world is bigger than two sides.

L: May we trust we are made in the image of God, and therefore, contain multitudes.

C: May we move through this world with an open heart, a curious mind, and the confidence that we do not go alone.

L: God is with us in the mountains, in the valleys, and everywhere in between. Believe that good news, and go in peace.

Song Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing Music: Repository of Sacred Music, Part II; Text: Robert Robinson

Come, thou Fount of ev'ry blessing,

tune my heart to sing thy grace;

streams of mercy, never ceasing,

call for songs of loudest praise.

While the hope of endless glory

fills my heart with joy and love,

teach me ever to adore thee;

may I still thy goodness prove.

Here I raise my Ebenezer:

"Hither by thy help I've come";

and I hope, by thy good pleasure,

safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me when a stranger,

wand'ring from the fold of God;

he, to rescue me from danger,

interposed his precious blood.

Oh, to grace how great a debtor

daily I'm constrained to be;

let that grace now like a fetter

bind my wand'ring heart to thee.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it;

prone to leave the God I love.

Here's my heart, oh, take and seal it;

seal it for thy courts above.
